VALLEY ROAD

Photo of the new bungalows and the 'Chicken Farm' 1964

By Beryl Trott

The first photo shows a view looking across Valley Road from the back of three of the bungalows with the Chicken Farm easily visible. Looking at the  back of the bungalows you can see that each bungalow has two coal bunkers in the back garden and a concrete post for the washing line. Look closely at the left hand bungalow and you can see the lady of the house hanging out her washing. Perhaps it was a monday. Also it would seem that the back gardens have not matured and the buildings look new so it was probably taken soon aftre they were occupied. And there is plenty of room for the bungalows yet to come.

The second photo is a view of the front of the same bungalows and again the newness of the brickwork and roof tiles indicate that the bungalows are fairly new and probably not long occupied.

When we moved in, it was called Havendene Estate, and it cost £3350 freehold - garage extra if required.
