Work at Newhaven Town level crossing. The bolts holding down the timbers on the level crossing tended to become loose with the passage of vehicles and either the timbers were replaced or the bolts had to be retightened. However in this photo it is just possible that preparatory work is being carried out for the replacement of the crossing gates with the lifting barriers.
