Boxing tournament & dinner at Kings Country Club, Eastbourne.
Just came across this item by chance when browsing the site, I did building work for Ray King at the Country Club in the mid seventies. Ray was a lovely man to work for, I was in his office there one day, his window overlooked the staff car park when one of the kitchen staff came out with a huge tray of strawberries and put them in his car boot. Ray said did you see that, I want you to go over there and take them out and put them into the boot of my Rolls but don't say anything to anyone. He just thought it was a laugh. At the end of the day I went to put my tools in the van and there was a tray of strawberries in the back with a note from Ray saying, what a laugh. Later he bought Glyndley Manor near Hailsham, it was pretty run down and we spent two years refurbishing it. In the 1990s the Manor was bought By Elle Elle ministries a Christian missionary organisation, who my sister in law and her husband work for, so I have been able to visit many times.
