Can anyone date this postcard?

From the private collection of Graham Amy
Does anybody know or remember the reason why there is a large wooden frame bolted to the right hand brick pillar (and presumably at the left as well) which doesn't appear to be supporting anything ?
I like the advert notice above the doorway, "Novis and Sons Bricklayers Plasterers Orders received within", was the shop just a sideline for Mr/Mrs Novis. BUT then what on earth did "Look! Fifty Fifty" refer to I wonder?
This is surely the little grocers shop facing the bottom of Lawes Ave. which during my time (1943-1946) had the Mazawattee tea advert on the front wall.
