Another fine view of this 1930's ship, which visited Newhaven during May 2011.
The Sea Cloud was built by Krupp Werft in Germany and entered service in August 1931 as the Hussar. She was restored in 1979 and now sails as a 'boutique' luxury cruise ship carrying just 68 passengers. She is 359 foot long by 48 foot beam and barque rigged. When built at a cost of $1 million for the wife of E F Hutton she was the largest private yacht in the world. She was used as a weather observation ship during WWII. Her refurbishment in 1979 cost $7.5 million. Her original diesel engines still power the ship in the event there is insufficient wind to sail her.
