NEWHAVEN HARBOUR
Harbour Mouth Construction in the 1870's

This is a picture of the Newhaven Harbour Mouth under contruction in the 1870's, which included the lengthening of the existing west pier and the building of the new wooden west pier light and also a new east pier was constructed at the same time.
The railway line can be seen running alongside the quay on it's way to the breakwater construction site.
This picture was taken from where Fort Gate stands today.
