MEMORIES OF NEWHAVEN

Summer holidays on the mount

By David Sweatman

After our family holiday in 1947, there were possibly two further visits in the late forties but I cannot remember too much about either of these. however, in the summer of 1952 I was sent to stay with my Uncle Ed, my father's youngest brother, his wife, Aunt Edna and their only son, John, who were living at the time in Claremont Road up on Mt.Pleasant. Their abode was one of the Nissen huts left after being vacated by the services at the end of the war. I considered this to be a great adventure and became eternally grateful to my Aunt & Uncle, as life at home had become difficult due to the long term hospitalisation of our mother.
