I remember seeing Stena Nautica at the ramp that day and thinking "That's a big ship, how will that run here?". Now we wouldn't even class it as big, compared to the likes of Dieppe or the 'Transmanche twins'.

The pic of Cally Princess is a gem, a slice of history. She has lots of fans on various shipping and ferry sites, would you consider posting it on www.shipsnostalgia.com?

I have some more photographs taken the same morning of her leaving, but I have not come across them yet.

I'm a regular visitor to Newcastle and the Cally P is still there moored on The Gateshead side of the Tyne next to the Tyne Bridge. Now called Tucsedo Junction no where near as grand. She was featured in the BBC production of "Our Friends in the North".
I used to have to do ship keeping on her when she was laid up at Newhaven .... a very spooky experience.

I remember watching transfixed as special forces conducted 'helo drop' exercises on the Caledonian Princess when she was laid up in Newhaven. There are photos on this website showing helocopters over her doing highline drops. We had a window in our attic that I took a couple of quick snaps from, but I have no idea where they would be now.
