Please excuse my ignorance, but is this demolition all part of the new college that I understand is going to be based around the old Marine Workshops ?

Hi Rob, yes it is the beginning of general tidying up of the area. After the Loco sheds have been removed I understand that the Cast Iron columns which supported the shed roof and which can be seen in the photos are to be repositioned to form part of the adjacent river walkway. The college itself will be based within the old Marine Workshops building. Search Google (Lewes Planning) with the following, LW/14/0310 gives this result:-

Demolition of locomotive workshops and two storey buildings adjoining Marine workshops and partial demolition of timber seasoning shed to carpenters workshop, conversion, extensions and alterations to Marine workshops and carpenters workshop to form Newhaven University Technical College
