BREAKWATER END AND LIGHTHOUSE

This photo cropped up on the Memories of East Sussex Facebook group and with their blessing, I'm sharing it here.

It shows the end of the Breakwater and the lighthouse and is dated 1939. Preparations for war clearly in evidence, a pill box facing the harbour entrance and a larger structure facing seawards, presumably housing some guns. And what looks like a drawbridge for access to the breakwater end.

I've not seen this before and would like to find out more. Does anyone remember this?
