FLYER FOR LOCAL BUSINESSES
From 1965
By Andy Gilbert
When I was taking the photo of the book that my sister Elizabeth received for jointly winning the Dean's Prize at Newhaven County Secondary School in the Summer of 1965, [see this page: http://www.ournewhaven.org.uk/page/newhaven_county_secondary_school_prize_giving_1965 ] I found this flyer inside, which Elizabeth had used as bookmark. It's been inside the front cover since then.
How many of these names can you remember? The Library in Church Hill, of course, and Downs Laundry and C H Seymour spring to mind for me, but how about Clive Ericson Music in South Road, or Cards and Gifts in the High Street? And note that the Newhaven telephone numbers still have just two & three digits.
Interesting to note that 7B Chapel Street is still a hair salon, 54 years on! It was 'Peter' back then, but has been 'Eclips' for almost as long as I can clearly remember.
I'm guessing that the "11.30 Sat" written on the flyer may have been an appointment at the salon.
