I was born in Newhaven in 1933. I can well remember the steam trains and the engine sheds. The day to day trains from Newhaven were electric. The boat train from Victoria was a large stem train. My uncle Jack Simmons used to drive it. In later years he drove the small 'Fenchurch' this operated between the oil tanks near sleepers hole. taking oil to refuel the ships. This engine is now on the Bluebell Line.

In the period of time you are talking about Newhaven was a very small town, where every body seemed to know everyone else or were related. Sorry I cannot help with the names you need I have lived away from there for some time. At one time SR was the main employer and I would have thought there are many people there today with even better connections with the railways.
