Valley Road used to start at the bottom of the hill, opposite the Lewes Road Tavern, roughly on the line of what is now Willow Walk. Part-way along on the right (north side) there was a rubbish tip (this was before they made the big tip next to the Lewes Road council houses). Beyond the tip was a market garden belonging to Mrs. Crick and on the south side there was a small farm run by Mr. Barnett. This might be the chicken farm that Ray mentions; it is a long time ago now and difficult to remember!
