Re: 1 Rose Walk

In my day, each street or group of streets had its own shop or maybe several to serve a bit bigger neighbourhood. You could do a pretty much full shop very close to home then. Goachers in Rose Walk was a typical general grocers shop built to service the new houses in the new development nearby. They sold pretty much all of the day to day stuff a small convenience store stocks today. You went to town to get the Sunday joint from the butcher. Maybe you got a bit adventurous and got a few things extra while you were in town but you stuck firmly with your local 'man'. I can still see Mr. Goacher slicing bacon or cutting off a piece of cheese with a wire by eye to whatever weight the customer specified. And their son went to school with us. Oh and by the way They sold Eldorado ice cream. Seriously the best ever!!
