There are several photos on Flickr website; just type in "Scammell Scarab". Also, the Mechanical Horse website might be worth a look. As far as I know, they weren't used round the harbour, they just made deliveries round the town and district from the goods shed. The Scarab at Newhaven was registered PXP xxx, I don't remember the number. Before the Scarab came, the railway van was driven by Joe Evans and I used to feed the horse with potatoes when it called in our street!
