NEWHAVEN MUSEUM REOPENS FOR 2017
Lots of work has been done over the winter
By Andy Gilbert
Newhaven Museum reopened a few days ago for the 2017 season and is open from 11.00 to 4.00, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. It's clear that our friends at the Museum have been busy over the winter months giving the attraction a major make-over. Perhaps the most obvious is the full length display cabinet on the main wall, but equally important is the air conditioned room that now holds all the museum's photo albums and paper records. The Cinema De Luxe has also had a revamp, complete with 1970s stereogram!
The photo albums are now available to view by special request only and while I will personally miss the opportunity to just pop in, pick an album at random and leaf through it to see what memories it might bring back - often joining others doing much the same thing - all the photos in the albums have been scanned in high resolution and a new touch screen terminal will allow visitors instant access to them, via a search system that's much better than the previous, rather clunky version!
As always, well worth a visit!
I've taken a few photos of the new layout, and the Museum have kindly sent me some photos of the work that's been going on. I've included just a few. This page is in Gallery Mode - click on a thumbnail to see the full sized version.
