So sad as it was my infants school and taught me how to read and write. Have such lovely memories and made life long friends being there.

This school was built for me...............well ok, not just me but all my displaced school mates from Meeching Infants when the latter was demolished to make way for the ring road. It coincided with the school year start date being tweaked from September 15th to September 1st, which meant that the majority of my class mates moved into year 2 at Grays whereas I and a couple of others stayed in year 1 - my birthday is September 8th - so instead of being youngest in the class I became one of the oldest. This also meant that I had cousin Lee and 2nd cousin Angela in the same class for the first time. Other classmates were Lee and David Shepherd, one of which lent back in his chair and broke through the outside wall of the classroom. Having built the school the schoolboard was obviously short of funds and brought equipment from the demolished school. I distinctly remember there being a box of slates and chalk at the front of the class that was passed around and used instead of paper and pencils at one point. 2nd year teacher was the redoubtable Mrs Coleman.

Hello Rob,

Happy New Year and I hope you are keeping well.

Strange to see it derelict and now burnt down, as we were indeed the lucky recipients of a brand new school.  I must admit the class photo that is on the website has me confused as to whether it is me or someone else!

Am I right in thinking we had the equally redoubtable Mrs Phelps in year 1?

Seems Newhaven has a bit of a 'twisted fire starter' thing going on when it comes to school redevelopment.

Hello! so disappointed, literally just found out, but it was definitely part of who I am today, the fact that I came back home to Africa must've kept me in the dark, shame. Forever love this school
