Come and See Us in the Cafe!

Paradise Park

14th October 2017 - - Come and see us at Paradise Park.

By the Our Newhaven Team

Our Newhaven has something important to celebrate! The group was set up back in September 2007, the 'baby' of its founder Jackie Blackwell, with local and regional funding, a few web pages and a handful of photos from local agencies and Newhaven Museum.

Since then, its grown to what it is today, a 'living history' website with hundreds of pages and so many images we've stopped trying to count them!

Over the years, we've had generous support and backing from Newhaven Town Council, which has allowed us to get 'out and about', as well as putting on Powerpoint slide shows for local groups. We'd like to give them a huge thankyou! The current team would also like to thank all those people who have been part of Our Newhaven over the years and who have now moved on to new projects and new careers.

To celebrate our 10th Anniversary, we're holding an all-day event in the Cafe at Paradise Park, Avis Road, Newhaven. It's on Saturday 14th October and we'll be there from 10.00am until 4.00pm.

We'll have some of our photos and albums on display, plus Chairman Andy Gilbert's unique book detailing the history of the former harbour tug Meeching. His large scale model of the Meeching will also be on show. We'll be running some Powerpoint slide shows to look at, and we'll have live access to the Our Newhaven website. We'll be able to show you how easy it is to create your own pages for inclusion on the site.

In addition, we'll be able to scan your photos of the town and record the stories and memories that go with them. These will be added to the website, on the day if time permits, or shortly afterwards.

So whether you're a first time visitor, or an 'old hand' at the site, do come down to see us at Paradise Park and say 'Hello'. We'd love to see as many people as possible!

Congrats. How about celebrating by introducing an up to date forum with real time posting?

Our Newhaven was never intended to be a real-time forum as such, Ron. There is a message board facility, but that's not the same thing, of course.

The nearest things to a 'Newhaven forum' are the 'We Love Newhaven' Facebook groups, one for recent photos and the other for more general chat.

I still think it would be a good idea and make the site more popular. It wouldn't necessarily mean more work for anyone as I'm sure people would volunteer to be moderators. Not everyone uses Facebook. Just a thought.
