THE CHARABANC TRIP

A day out in the 1920's

By John Oakley

Just found this old photgraph which was taken in the 1920s. It is an example of the way we travelled on a day trip. The postcard has written on the back:-

Left Bournemouth 11:00 am arrived Weymouth 1:00 pm arrived Lulworth 3:20 pm, left at 4:45 pm, back to Bournemouth 6:15 pm.

I don't think Health and Safety would allow charabancs today.

Even many years later my mother always referred to coach trips as a CHARA.

It's doubtful if any Newhaven people are on board unless they were staying in Bournemouth but the 2 people on the back left of the chara are my mother and father. Maud Bennett and Robert Oakley.
