STRANDED IN THE MARINA

Low tide c1990s
By Vicky Delaney

Boats stranded in the Marina when the dredging stopped for a time.

I was told all the boats carried a shovel!

What year was this?

Comments/reviews:

If my memory's correct, that's just the marina at low tide. A quick Wikipedia search for Stena Line dates the photograph to between 1996 and 1998.

WOW! What a sad sight. I worked in the marina for a summer when it was Cresta Marina. Boats could all get in or out at any state of the tide in those days. Some were rather large too! Looks like all small boats there these days.

When would that have been William? What job were you doing at the Marina? Jackie - Editor

Guess that would have been around 1962 time. Dredgers were still working the harbour then. I worked there as a boatman for a short while before joining the "Sand Martin". Fred Holden (retired tug Captain) was in charge, ably assisted by John Allen who I believe went on to become Lifeboat crew. All Long years ago now...

Thanks William - its great to read the memories and stories of Newhaven past before they are long forgotten! Jackie - Editor
