HARBOUR ENTRANCE REPAIRS

1980's - 2008

By Laurie Stonehouse

The following photographs show the Harbour entrance under repair from around 1985 to 2008. The crane in the 2008 photographs is visible from quite some distance. These large moving machines are quite topical in Newhaven at the moment.

The picture of the east side repairs in 1985 brings to mind all the talk of opening up that side of the harbour as additional marina space. It never happened of course, but then it never happened back in the 19th century when it was proposed to provide additional dock space in the same area by opening it to the fairway!
