BUILDING THE EAST PIER c1883/4

It looks like the wooden east pier tower is in position in these pictures so it dates them at about 1883/4. It is thought that the major alterations of the harbour mouth started in the very late 1870's and continued on into the mid 1880's which included the building of the west foreshore and light, new east pier and the forming of the west arm (the breakwater) ...
