The tug is TSA Tugs Ltd's "Towing Chieftain", and she's moored ahead of one of the old Isle of Wight car ferries. The photo is between 1989 and 2000, as those were the years she operated under the name Towing Chieftain.

Do we have a date for this picture.? If it's what I think it is then the lifeboat was called out to this tug and tow early one summer morning. The tug was making heavy progress in towing what was one of the old chain ferries from Southampton, I believe the tow had parted at least once even though it was a glorious summer morning. I was put onto the tow, with a radio, to help reconnect if the tow parted again whilst the lifeboat escorted them into Newhaven. It was of great interest to me because my parents had both been born and raised in Southampton and had travelled on the 'floating bridge' as it was called from Woolston to Chapel many many times.

This isn't the floating bridge you're thinking of, Rob. Another of Steve Turner's photos shows the tow as being one of the older car ferries from the Lymington-Yarmouth route. I'm trying to find out the name and date.

The Isle of Wight ferry just out of shot to the right looks like one of the early 1970s batch which included Caedmon, Cenwulf, Cenred etc.
