Can't think why I remember this but did someone who was known as 'Darky' Knight live in the end house shown in the picture ? I seem to remember going there with a friend of mine who was related to him, maybe his Uncle or Grandfather. My friends name was Geoff Corlett, his Mother's name was Pauline and his Dad was known as 'Snowy' who used to work on the 'Brighton' Mail Boat in the 50's. Can anyone confirm this ?

Yes Darkie's family did live there and were true old Newhaveners, lovely people. I think Darkie and his younger brother Pete are still in the area.

I was born in Number 2 Denton Terrace. The Knight's lived at No 1 and the Bronston's at No 3. I lived there until the Terrace was demolished in 1972. The houses were old and cold but I still miss the place even today. I think of it almost every time I pass over the flyover. Happy Days... Steve

My sister's friend Val Moody lived in Denton Terrace in the sixties, as did Vic Sexton, wonder where they are now?

Dont know what happened to the Moody's, but Vic is my brother and he still lives in Newfield Road.

Worked on them old houses many a time and had a few beers at the Railway. Nowadays, Darkie can often be found at the West Beach car park talking to John, usually about "Old Newhaven". I think that most of old Newhaveners and mariners do, including myself when I am in the area. Thanks John, for keeping me up to date with the local gossip and the loan of the local newspapers.
