Two speedy sisters.

I always thought the "Rule of the Road" was PORT TO PORT or am I wrong.
There was a big version of this on the wall in the main Sealink offices in Beach Road - perhaps this is a photo of that photo. The sisters never usually passed this close. On all the crossings I made on the V's, they were maybe 1/2 mile apart. I did write to Transmanche and suggested they got Fotoflite to do a similar photo of the current twins. Guess that fell on deaf ears!

RB, here's the rhyme my Dad taught me to remember the rules.
"Green to green or red to red - perfect safety, go ahead. If on your starboard red appears, it is your duty to keep clear. But if on your port side is seen, a steamer's starboard light of green. There's not so much for you to do, for green to port keeps clear of you."
So, on the open sea, starboard to starboard is OK. And for many years we've had radar to assist collisions....
I have always understood that this was possibly a publicity photograph, and thanks for the rhyme Andy I had long forgotten it, a memory jogger, my dad used to chant that to me.
Andy, did you really mean "....radar to assist collisions" or did you mean to say "...radar to prevent collisions" ?
Sorry, RB. I'm being a bit sarcastic, but not much! I did mean 'assist'. It happens. I think some bridge crews (if you can call them that these days) are so busy watching the electronics that they don't look outside. How else can you explain collisions between large ships in fine weather and perfect visibility? "Andrea Doria" comes to mind and that was in the days before GPS etc etc.
I think Rule #1 is something like "A good lookout must be maintained at all times"......
One of the many rhymes my dad taught me was, "When three lights you see ahead, Starboard wheel and show your red. If in doubt with no room to turn, ease her, stop her, go astern."
Thanks for reminding me of that one! Andy
