HIGH STREET
c1915
By Laurie Stonehouse
These two delightful postcards taken of the High Street some 90 years ago, show the town centre in a rather relaxed mood. Considering that the great war was raging, and with access to Newhaven restricted to millitary personnel only and civillian residents needing special ID documents, the atmosphere captured in these photographs seems rather calm.
