Raymond Turner Photos 1970's
By Sylvia Woolford (nee Turner)
My father worked at the harbour for most of his working life. (1965 - 1999). First working for British Rail, as Coxswain of the Diving/Survey Launch, and Plant Fitter, and then later employed by Sealink.
Here are some photos from his own collection.
Photo 1: Early 1970's - Barrowhead Barge - This pulled out the old wooden piles and drove the new wooden piles on the quayside (maintenance of harbour). It was also used for recovery (underwater work). Men in photo: John Richards, John Wojciechowski, Ray Turner, Alan Akehurst.
Photo 2: Early 1970's - This roller was used for road works within the harbour environs. My uncle Sydney Turner drove this and dad took over when his brother moved to Folkestone.
Photo 3, 4 & 5: Early 1970's - Trident Harbour Diving/Survey Launch. Dad was the coxswain for 34 years. Picture Number 4 shows my dad, uncle Sydney and Bill Kingshott.
Photo 6,7, 8 & 9: Early 1970's - Photos of diver John Martin (diver for the Trident Launch). Picture 5/6 - Diving on Testside Dredger. Men in photo: Alan Akehurst, Sid Langridge, John Martin (Diver)
Photo 10, 11: 1966/7 - Helping Police Divers from Worthing, search for evidence regarding a murder (man from London) - Photo 8 - DI Pert, Photo 9 - Inspector Large and Diver.
