PS Ryde

At the east quay in 1961

This is the Isle of Wight paddle steamer Ryde moored by the sheerlegs, presumably for maintenance work.
I took this in 1961 but am not sure of the month. I think it was spring or summer.

The paddlers Ryde and Sandown were always laid up here in the winter months. Each would have a refit, then go onto the gridiron for a paint-up and occasional change of paddle wheels. They would leave in time for the Summer season to join the diesel ferries Brading, Southsea and Shanklin. So I think this will be a Springtime photo.
