RAILWAY QUAY - 2009

The shrubs have been removed

By Laurie Stonehouse

This area had been deserted for many years with shrubs and brambles taking over, but on the 1st of May 2009 the diggers moved in and cleared this section of the Railway Quay. As you can see from the photographs, the old security hut and the abandoned carriages are now revealed.

Comments about this page

Apart from the artistic element of these pictures, there is the other aspect to these photo's which indicate a slow decline over the past few years of certain areas of the harbour infastructure which is rather sad when areas could be put to better use, I make these observations as a resident of our town for over 50 years . But as per usual there are the financial restraints which retard such possiblities especially at present times . One other area which was in a very sad condition is the vehicle custom hall which cars pass through when disembarking from ferries, it was no advert for a welcome to the UK, unless a lick of paint has beeen applied of late which hopefully has happened to give a more positive look to this location.
