Nice to see my grandfather ( Bert Muddle ) the barber got a mention in this poem of old local characters , I also remember old Jab Bert, the teacher who was quite a interesting guy.
My Granddad was Henry Purcell. He chased us for the rent too. And we lived in his brother's house!
Can anyone recall Alf Purcell, Henry's brother?
What a lovely poem, Brought back many wonderful memories of old Newhaven, Thanks a lot Tony and Peter.
Loved the poem, dont forget Ben Knight the chimney sweep man, lived in South Road. Quite a character.
Was this Bobby Sandford who lived in Norman Road ? Mary ( Nee Carter) May 2010
I would really appreciate any information on Jab Burt, a few of us would go up his house in Rose Walk for bible lessons with tea in china cups and home made cake, in the mid 60's.
