Checked the pdf.
Noticed no comments from anyone who attended Newhaven Secondary Modern as I knew it.
I wonder why?
:)
Is that bit to be forgotten?
An Aussie Expat.

I don't think Newhaven Secondary Modern will ever be forgotten by its former pupils, Michael, and I'm sure you haven't missed our pages about the school on this site.

However this publication is specifically about Tideway from 1969 onwards. Should really be Autumn 1968 onwards - that's when I started there. new pupil in a 'new' school.

Why did this project start in 1969? The school was almost ten years old by then. The name Tideway was chosen after a competition for pupils during my time there 1963/68. Hi to Michael Player. You can't get to Australia for ten pounds now, in fact you would not get two cups of coffee in the airport lounge for that. Do you recognise any of your old mates in the 4th year class of '67 reunion?

When did Tideway open then? I thought I was in the first intake that must have been late fifties - I started work in 1961. Can anyone remember going to school at what I can only think was the chapel in Chapel Street. The railway used to run behind, the drivers used to stop and look through the window at the clock, much to our amusement.

As I said above, Tideway's 1st intake was Autumn 1968, I was in that lot. Andy -Editor

I have a copy of the opening programme of the new school in 1958. Not yet Tideway, but we all helped towards the completion. As each new 'bit' was added us older pupils ferried desks etc. into place. it took Harold Wilson's government of 1964 and subsequent reform to complete the 'comprehensive' overhaul and save the bright ones from Mr Bradshaw's interrogation into Lewes Grammar School!

Hi, I left this school at Easter 1960 after only being there a short while. My class and two others moved to this school I think about September 1959 from the Secondary at Hillcrest Road. We were the first to go there and the school only comprised of one small block, and as mentioned before it was still called the Secondary Modern. "Tideways" came later. The school is now vast and I'm not sure if I can say I like the colours but that's Modern!!!.
