HARBOUR VIEW - 1930

West Quay / Old Swing Bridge / Stricklands Warehouse

By Laurie Stonehouse and Graham Amy

This interesting postcard from 1930 shows the Stricklands warehouse which was situated on the North Quay.  Sadly, this large warehouse was destroyed by an internal fire in 1940. Crossing the river is the old Victorian swing bridge; she still has 44 years left until her demise.  The Bridge Street entrance seems to show a lady dressed in white. The left side of the photograph shows a tranquil West Quay, with a medium sized boat moored up near The Ark while next to this vessel is a smaller boat with a gentleman in a white top.
