Early 20th century

The CO-OP Bakery around 1900. The head baker was Mr Chown on the left and on the right is Mr Percy Jenner. In the front is a man that used to play golf at Peacehaven with me, but I cannot remember his name.

Just a little word (from the little woman) re the Bakery photo. Ken should have said that Mr. Chown the Head Baker was his Grandad. The tall young chap on the left of Mr. Chown was Bert Wood. He worked for the Co-op Bakery all his working life. During the war he did a bakery round in the town with a horse and cart - I was there! I was Jean Combs in those days from Lewes Road.

My uncle Harry Chant who lived in Norman Road, worked at a bakery most of his life in Newhaven from the 1930's onwards.

Am not sure it was Coop Bakery.
