INK DRAWING BY JAMES COOK

1899
By Reg Towner

This little drawing from my personal collection was done by a friend of the Towner family in June 1899.  It depicts three vessels with a view of possibly Seaford Head in the background.  Is it a paddle steamer pulling coal barges? - I will leave it to the experts to enlighten us!

It's most likely that the tug is the 'Tipper', and part of her everyday work was towing mud-laden barges, from one the harbour's dredgers, in and out of the harbour. -Andy, Editor.
