SOMEONE'S BIRTHDAY PARTY?

Eleven well-scrubbed kids in the early 1950s

By Doug Hall

This must have been someone's Birthday party given how clean and tidy we all are! Although it's unlikely to have been mine, given our summer clothes - I was born in November. I'm certain the photo was taken in the early 1950s when I lived in Lawes Avenue. So it's likely to have been in one of the gardens backing onto the alley that ran behind the even side of Lawes Avenue and wishboned down behind Brighton Road between Murray Avenue and Harper's Road, where my life centred during those days. I'm second from the right in the front row, and I'm sure that Roger Stewert is far left in the front row. Does anyone recognise any of the others?

Having noted the postings of the Hibling family, Lynsey (according to my sister) is also in the pic!

The young lady, back row with ribbons in her hair right hand end is Pat Flowers and to her left it looks like it could be Alan Farley.

Hello - third from top right is me, Doreen Wood (now Bolton and living in France, then I think Lindsay Hibling, then Pat Flowers - bottom row - third from left I think could be the late Sally Flowers.

Looking at this photo again, I wonder if second from the left in the front row might be Derek White (Whyte)? He lived next door to me at no. 70 Lawes Avenue. His father had a small building firm. I believe they emigrated sometime in the 1950s.
