This month’s picture shows the houses of Sefton Terrace, Denton Island, with Catts Cottages leading away to the left.  This photo was taken in the 1930s when Denton Islanders were a community in their own right. Fludes Carpets now occupy the site where Sefton Terrace once stood. If you have any memories of the island, we would love to hear from you.

My great grandfather lived at 2 Sefton Terrace, Denton Island. He was a boilermaker at the Marine Workshops. He was transferred there from Brighton Locomotive Works. He originaly came from Bolton, Lancs. The house was shared by his wife Mary Ann, sons William, Joseph, Charles, John (my grandfather) and Allen. He also had daughters Catherine and Elizabeth. All his sons also worked for the LBSCR.
