REPAIR OF THE NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT

'Keith Anderson'

By Chris Young

These pictures depict repairs to the Keith Anderson Arun Class lifeboat, which were carried out at Sovereign Harbour Marina at Eastbourne, following the beaching of the Dutch sail training vessel Eindracht.  The lifeboat was attempting to render assistance in the re-launching of the Eindracht when a sudden swell pushed the lifeboat bows onto the vessel, causing severe bow damage. I took these photos as I was involved in carrying out the repairs at Langley marine.  This was in the late 1990's.

Following these repairs 'Keith Anderson' (Arun Class ) returned to her Newhaven base and continued her last period of SAR (Search and Rescue) status until being relieved / replaced by the current Severn Class lifeboat . This Arun class boat then headed north east to Hartlepool to serve on .

At Hartlepool the Keith Anderson ran aground on service and did a fair bit of damage to the hull, she was eventualy sold out of service around 2004 and went to China as a rescue boat, I have no further info from there on so if anyone knows her fate I would be interested to know
