DENTON

The Flying Fish

A view taken in the 1960's. Apart from the colour scheme, not much has changed.

I always liked the blue paint! Andy, Editor

The Fish (or the Kicking Donkey as it was affectionally known) was my local pub for around ten years when I lived in Denton. Martin Watts was the landlord at this time, with his wife Sylvia, both sadly departed, Martin was a bit of a curmudgeon but Sylv was one of the nicest people I have ever met.. It was a great local and was the centre for many activities including the annual pram race for charity. I played darts for one of their teams and captained it for a while. It's very low lying and often flooded during times of heavy rainfall. I had my Stag night there and ended up being stripped naked and given the bumps in the graveyard next door, happy days.
