Tugs and the Seaford bay pipeline
By Ournewhaven
This series of photographs were taken from the Giraffe crane and shows tugs towing out a very long pipeline. It was used when Seaford beach was rebuilt. A large Dutch dredger sucked up shingle in the channel then came in off Seaford and pumped it onto the beach via this pipeline. It was probably over a mile long and was constructed north of the bridge and towed downriver, with the bridge having to open for each of the tugs in turn as they went through.
