Great photo! And to think there was a letter in the local paper a few weeks back asking why anyone would want to go on our 'dirty, oily beach'. Andy - Editor

I walked that way this evening(9/5/2013) with the dog and saw a large pipe laid from left to right as you look down from the main steps. It was at least six feet tall and appeared to be flexible. Does anyone know what that's about?
Apparently the pipe was being floated to another destination and developed a leak and started to sink so was "beached" at Newhaven for repair. They are working on it when the tide is out so I can only hope that it is a tempory "invasion".
This is one of seven sections on it's way to Kenya from Norway and it did spring a leak, which is why it has been beached. It is the smallest of the sections, the biggest being about three times longer.
