COUNCIL BOYS SCHOOL

Sussex Express Article February 2014

By Carol Walton

This month’s picture shows class IV from the then Council Boys School.

During the First World War the school building served as a Hospital. About 1950 the boys school and the separate girls school (which was situated where the swimming pool is now) were amalgamated to become a co-ed school, Newhaven County Secondary. Then during the early sixties the school moved to the new building in Southdown Road and eventually became Tideway Comprehensive.
