TUG MEECHING REMEMBERED

Photo tribute to a local tug

By Derek Longly

Whenever I visited Newhaven and later when I lived in the town, a familiar little vessel would always be present in the harbour - the tug Meeching.

Often she would be sat at her berth on the West Quay, but more interesting were those occasions when I would see her busy around the port, especially when she was engaged in helping the large freighters that called.

Her history is well documented elsewhere on this site so this is just my personal tribute to her in photographs.  Long may she be fondly remembered.

Many thanks for adding these photos to the site, Derek. Nice to see some images that I haven't seen before, as well as some of the other vessels in the harbour that Meeching served so well.
