GROWING UP IN NEWHAVEN
The next generation
By Alan Wiltshire
I never thought I would leave Newhaven but in 1978 I moved to Yorkshire because of work, although when I got there I found I didn't enjoy working for the same firm in Yorkshire and ended up working down Maltby colliery for a few years. In 1984 I had a young family & was not working, there just wasn't the work around in Yorkshire, so I decided to find work back in Newhaven. I got a job and moved my family to Newhaven, I felt back down south was a better place for them to grow up.
They enjoyed growing up in Newhaven, they went to the school on church hill and then on to Tideway school.
They grew up to make me really proud of them and Newhaven will always be home to them no matter where they are living.
