This shop used to be next door to Parson's and opposite the old Post Office - I think there was a record shop there in the 1960's. Does anyone remember?
I remember the record shop. I think it was called Sweatmans, I used to spend time in the booths listening to the newest releases
Sweatmans was indeed the record shop later found at these premises - owned & run by Bill Sweatman. (I to remember buying some of my very first records here). My late father, Joe Blackman, used to undertake radio repairs for Mr Sweatman.
I think the record shop was to the left of this shop, because I also bought most of my early records from there, when I worked for Elliott & Mann.
Was this the same Mr Sweatman that taught music in the junior school in the late 50s!
The record shop was to the left of Parkers & was run by my uncle Bill. He didn't teach at the school, according to my mother, but was involved with the Sea Cadets, I think as the Commanding Officer for a while.
Quite a few photos of him in the Press Cuttings scrapbooks (albums 400 onwards) at Newhaven Museum. Well worth a look! Andy, Editor
Wasn't there a mens' clothing shop called Wigglesworth's (not sure of the spelling) in that parade, during the 1960's?
