SAND BEACH

The cliff collapse of the early 1960's

By John Hills

Two pictures of the sand beach from the 1960's.

The first black and white picture shows the scene before the major cliff fall of 1962/63, with the gun emplacement/lookout point top left of picture still in situ.

The second colour photo from about 1966/67, clearly shows  the large scar left in the cliff face after a section of retaining wall and gun emplacement/lookout point landed at the foot of the cliff, luckily for everyone this particular cliff collapse happened overnight.

Those were the days.

Swimming off the breakwater.

When the boats came in or left the waves were great to surf.
