Was it Norman Road where Lord Lucan's car was found parked? I think it was at the school end on the east side of the road.

Yes, his car was found in Norman Road. Afterwards I recall seeing  a car which was towing a trailer along the Drove with a small autogiro plane on it. I found out later it was the autogiro which was used by the Sussex Police to search the area around the fort for any signs of Lucan. For interest, I have added photos to this page of his car in Norman Road and the autogiro which was used by the Police. The photo of the car was a cutting from a newspaper at the time and that of the autogiro came from an Aviation magazine which carried an article about its use by the Police in the search for Lucan. However unfortunately I did not record which Newspaper or Magazine they came from.

I was at Southdown school at the time the Autogyro was used.  It was flying back and forth over the Union whilst we were out on the playing field. I also recall news footage of police divers emerging from under the old bridge in the search for him.
