I'm sure that was the chemists opposite the Rex Cinema. There were the usual large containers of coloured water in the window. They used to dispense bottles of evil-tasting jallop which was a cure-all for the childrens' ailments like chicken-pox, measles, flu, colds etc. I'm sure it was a form of negative re-enforcement: Catch lurgi and you get this stuff spooned into you. It certainly kept my ailments down to a minimum.
Mr Bridger's shop was on the corner of the High Steet, opposite No 1, Mrs M E Warnes's General Stores, with the Bridge Hotel on the other corner. I used to get 3d for washing Mr Bridger's car, in our back yard.
