NEWHAVEN A.T.C. UNIT in the 1940's

Photo believed to have been taken at Shoreham Airport

By Sis Parsons, Ginny Smith and Richard Beckett

The photo shows members of the Newhaven ATC (Air Training Corps) including Ken Parsons (aged approx.18), taken circa 1940's and almost certainly at Shoreham Airport. The plane in the background is a "Walrus" seaplane one of which was based at Shoreham and which was used as a backup to the Air Sea Rescue Unit which was located at Newhaven up until the 1960's.

According to Dennis Heathfield who sent me a copy of the ATC photo it was 1943 or 1944 and at Shoreham. There is a list of most of the names in the local museum with the photo.
