CROWN INN DARTS TEAM

Late 1960's

By Marilyn Nolan

This is a picture of a darts presentation evening at the Crown Inn.  In the picture are many well known Newhaven people - Buck Charman, Terry Nunn, Dave Smart, Sam Simmons and his wife, Keith Curl to name but a few - come on name a few more!!  Also in the picture is Jean Morley who was the landlady of the Crown.  I am standing between Sam and his wife looking oh so glamorous (must have had my hair done that day!!)

I can only name one more face; that is Dick Pellett, standing behind Marilyn. He lived in Chapel Street and we used to go to school together. I played darts in the 60's for the Hampden Arms in South Heighton in the Monday Night League but we always went into the Crown first, to 'warm up' before catching the bus to the 'Hampden' so to see Buck Charman (Hampden landlord) in the picture brings back lots of memories.

Second in from the right (wearing glasses) is Al Lankin. Next to him the lady is, as we knew her, "Ma Lankin". They were landlady and landlord of The Prince in South Road.
