BOY'S CLUB MIDNIGHT MATINEES AT THE REX CINEMA

circa 1960'S?

By Terry Nunn

These photos were taken at one of the midnight matinees at the Rex Cinema in the High Street.  The Boy's Club organised these events with the help of Bill Owen, the Club President.  The first picture shows me with Mick Winder and the late Terry Burroughs.  The other two show Harry H. Corbett and Bill Owen taking part in the evening.

I'm not sure what year they were taken because there were others before and after.  Can anyone help?

I remember seeing Bill Owen on stage I think the midnight show was Sean Connery and Alfred Lynch in a film, I can't remember it's name. Was it in 1961 or 1962. This may have been that same night.

I think these pictures were probably taken on the night of the 14th October 1960  at the premiere of     " Watch My Stern "  Hosted by Bill Owen who treated us to a rendition of " Mack The Knife "  the Bobby Darin hit of 1959, on the same evening.

The film with Alfred Lynch and Sean Connery was "On the Fiddle". It was about two lads called up for National Service; Sean Connery was an unknown then!

If that is true Bruce it dates the pictures to the October 1961.

Sorry to read about Terry, we were in the same class at Meeching junior school. I don't think we were in the same class up at the secondary school although we were in the same year. I lost contact with everybody I was at school with when I started work in 1961 I made friends with the other apprentices at Lewes Tech who came from Seaford and Haywards Heath mostly.
